Choosing the Right Carpet for your Home

Choosing carpet for your home doesn’t have to be difficult, but there are several things you’ll want to consider when you’re making your choice so that you won’t second guess your choice a year from now!

Padding

First, don’t ignore the padding. You won’t see it, but you’ll sure feel it. If you want your carpet to be soft and ultra-comfortable on your feet, get a good, thick padding that’s rated to last a long time.

Quality

When you look for the right carpet, price shouldn’t be the biggest factor. Having a budget is understandable, but buying the cheapest carpet you can find is a bad idea. It’s not going to last very long, won’t be as comfortable, and will definitely show wear and tear more easily. Choose at least a mid-grade carpet for your home, and consider going for something with Scotchgard if you have pets or children.

Style choices

The style of carpet you select will have a lot to do with how comfortable it is to walk on, and how long it will last once it’s put down on the floor in your home. Plush carpet is the softest, but can show vacuum marks and even footprints. Saxony is a similar style, and would be best for a lower-traffic area.

If you’re planning to put carpet in a high-traffic area of your home, consider Berber carpet. It’s a great choice for busy areas of your home, and won’t show vacuum marks. Stains and dirt also don’t show up easily on Berber, making it very popular in many homes today. You can get a Berber that’s textured if you want to have a pattern in your carpet, or one that’s untextured, and both can look equally beautiful.

If Berber isn’t for you, consider buying Frieze carpet. It’s soft on your feet, but it’s also a little bit fuzzy. That fuzziness is a great way to hide dirt and footprints, so your carpet will stay looking good for a longer period of time.
